It started with a $90 patio umbrella that snapped in its first windstorm and a $150 "smart" sprinkler timer that never once connected to the app it was built for. We'd spent a Saturday afternoon returning both, and while we waited in line, we started keeping a list of every home and garden gadget that had let us down that year. By the time we got home, the list had eleven items on it.

So we started OSS as a small buying group with one rule: nothing goes on the site until someone on our team has used it at home for at least two weeks. We source directly from manufacturers instead of going through the layers of distributors that pad big-box prices, and we skip anything with a plastic clip we wouldn't trust in our own yard. That's why a $22 hose nozzle here is the same nozzle you'd pay $35 for at the corner hardware store.

We're still a small team, and we still personally test every new product before it ships to a single customer. If it wouldn't earn a spot in one of our own homes, it doesn't earn a spot in yours.
